I have always loved crows and am particularly fascinated by their calls. Does anyone know anything about how crows communicate or have any references to how I could find out?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Mon, October 17, 2005 - 11:52 PMThat is funny. Polysynthetic languages are the shit.
I really wonder about my fishes' communicatoin when I am stoned. They are definitely relaying messages.

Re: Crow language
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 9:03 PMI was up Mount Tam last year when I noticed the crows were playing in the air. They started by playing a sort of game of catch, and then one picked a twig off a redwood and they played using that. I had never seen wild animals playing with a tool before. One would fly with it in its claws, and the other would chase the first and try to grab it. There was a lot of CHEATING (ha ha, just as you get near I grab it from my claws with my beak and dart away) and LAUGHTER (ha ha, now it's back in my feet again and I'm cawing at you gleefully). It was mind blowing to me. I had no idea birds had such a rich repertoire of communicative ludic behaviour. They played for a couple of hours. -

Re: Crow language
Wed, March 8, 2006 - 8:31 AMNational Geographic had an issue regarding animals at play. It was really fascinating! There was a crow or raven which had found a patch of ice on an incline and was sliding down the ice, would get up and go to the top to slide down again.

Wed, March 8, 2006 - 3:17 PMI heard that crows and ravens can imitate human speech like parrots and make good pets if you raise them.

Thu, March 9, 2006 - 11:37 AMThere's a really good book just out called In the Company of Crows and Ravens that probably addresses their calls, but I haven't read it yet. -

Re: Crow language
Sun, March 18, 2007 - 6:57 PMI know some crow language. (Corvid, not Apsaroke.) I can recognize the signal for the presence of certain animals, and have successfully located raccoons sleeping in trees from crow calls (it's a yellow alert)..
