i've been wondering about the evolution of the Jamaican accent. i know that Jamaica was a British colony before declaring independence. which of the regional English accents contributed most to the sound of the Jamaican? or, to get at probably the same bit of information another way...which existing British accent is most similar to the Jamaican?

    if you listen to it, south asian varieties have mixed with african sounds ... at least to my ears ... the brits gave the vocabulary mostly
    I posed the question to a colleague from Jamaica at work and while he understood the question, his response was south asian sounds predominate over those from the UK
